It is also known as “The University”, “Mr. Jefferson's University”, UVA, U.Va. or simply “Virginia” and its campus is located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The public University of Virginia is supported also by its alumni and it is really selective about its students, making U.Va. a place of learning envisioned by Mr. Jefferson’s ideals and standards. The main purpose of UVA’s academic programs is to develop very well-prepared leaders who would design the future of the nation and contribute to its development.
UVA holds many premieres and unique titles in the educational field, being the only university declared as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO and among the eight original Public Ivies. It is also considered by U.S. News & World Report 2009 as the second best public university in America, but still the first one to include in its academic programs disciplines like astronomy and philosophy, which are quite common nowadays. In fact, since the universities have begun to receive rankings, University of Virginia has always been in the first 25 of the best US public and private universities.
U.Va. has 12 schools in Charlottesville and another college in southwest Virginia, at Wise. The institution provides a large number of bachelor's degrees in over 45 fields as well as master and doctoral degrees.
UVA’s athletic teams are called officially the “Cavaliers” and their colors since 1888 are orange and blue, established at a mass student meeting. However, there are other nicknames that have been associated with U.Va.’s athletic teams such as "Wahoos" and "Hoos" (usually used by students and fans of University of Virginia) and also "V-men," "Virginians" and "Old Dominion". But, the official name of the athletic teams used also by the media is still the term "Cavaliers”.
The Gardens at University of Virginia
Gardening used to be a need in Virginia, because it offered food for the families here but it was also a need for relaxation and study. For UVA also, gardens were and still continue to be a place where students have the opportunity to relax and study at the same time, that is why the Pavilion Gardens are for sure a good choice.
